TRAVELLING FROM RIGA

To go from RIGA AIRPORT to MASSIARU, most of the time, you will have to go to RIGA Coach Station to take a connection. Take bus 22 or 322 takes 30 min. Or take a taxi for 10 euro, takes 15 min. As no lines provide a direct connection to MASSIARU, you will have to go to PÄRNU (EE) or AINAZI (LV) or SALACGRIVA (LV).

From the airport, the shuttles that go directly to PÄRNU are not so common (about twice a day). Nonetheless, there are departures from RIGA coach station to PÄRNU Coach Station every hour or so, operated by different companies (all the links below). The ride takes around 2.30 hours.

To check the latest timetables of all bus companies, please visit: www.tpilet.ee/en

Then, if not possible to buy tickets directly on tpilet, here are the websites of the different companies:
www.ecolines.net, www.eurolines.com, www.luxexpress.eu, www.simpleexpress.eu

Google maps’ directions function is also very useful to find bus routes and times in Estonia

If you opt for the route via PÄRNU
You’ll arrive at PÄRNU Coach Station where you can get bus line 72 or 80 to MASSIARU. Please check the bus times when you plan your journey as they don’t run very often: mon-fri: 7:05 am/ 2pm / 5:15 pm, sat-sun: 7:05 am / 5:15 pm. This ride takes around 1.20 hours and cost less than 2€. If you arrive at a time when there are no direct busses to Massiaru, you can also take a bus 74 to Häädemeeste instead (runs every hours or so and until 8:30 pm), and check if you can arrange a pick up by car if possible.

To go from Riga Coach Station to Ainazi Coach Station, you can book a ticket online using the URL above or you can use the ticket reception or ticket machine at Riga Coach Station. The ticket cost around 5€.

If you opt for the route via AINAZI (LV)
Ainazi is a Latvian village just before the Estonian border. A regional bus runs from RIGA Coach station for only about 5€. You can see the times on the time tables in the main hall of the Coach station and buy your ticket either on the reception or on ticket machines next to the reception. To plan ahead you can see times and book tix here: www.1188.lv/en/transport The ride takes 2,5-3 hrs. From here, the easiest but not cheapest is to arrange a car pick up if possible for 25€. There is also a local bus line which can bring you closer to Massia, it stops at the Estonian side of the border crossing called Ikla. It’s a 10 minutes walk across the main Road in Ainazi and it doesn’t run very often. You can take this bus to get towards Kabli or Häädemeeste and get off the nearest bus stop to Massiaru called Orajõe metskond – from where you can again ask for a car pick up (10€). To find the bus info you can use Google Maps or www.tpilet.ee and look for the Route from Ikla to Orajõe metskond.

If you opt for the route via SALACGRIVA (LV).
To go from Riga Coach Station to Salacgrīvas, the only option is to take a Riga Coach Station – Pärnu Coach Station trip, operated by the company Ecolines or Lux Express. Their buses usually make one stop at Salacgrīvas, but, to avoid bad surprise when buying ticket, please make sure it will stop by checking the “Detailed information” button. Also: you can not buy a ticket at the bus, so you have to buy it online at their website or at their ticket office in Riga Coach Station (usually booking ahead of your journey is not necessary).

Car option
As the trip by bus is very long because they go pretty slow, there’s also an option to save time and order a car to pick you up from Ainazi (25km), Salacgrīvas (35km) or Pärnu (50 km). Each option costs respectively 25 euros, 35 euros and 50 euros. You can check the buses to Ainazi at www.1188.lv/en/transport.

The people that can pick you up are not always available though. Before choosing this option, first call or sms +37259823344 to be sure somebody can pick you up.
